Description

Sharad Purnima Krishna Lila Pichwai – Full moon made of pure Gold and Silver.  The Raas Leela, or the divine dance that Krishna performed with the Gopis (cow herding girls) of Braj which symbolises the divine union and the spiritual love between Krishna and his devotees is said to have taken place on this night. Sharad Purnima is the first full-moon night (Purnima) of the monsoon, which marks the onset of Autumn (Sharad).Pichwais that depict Sharad Purnima typically show Shrinathji in the centre, flanked by Gopis or Gopikas on either side. There will also be a full moon above the figures, depicting Purnima. The Shrinathji figure in a Sharad Purnima Pichwai, is typically embellished with jewels and brocade.

Pichhwais are devotional pictures found on cloth or paper which portray Lord Krishna. They originated in the Deccan, India, and the villages of Aurangabad and Nathdwara in Rajasthan state. The purpose of Pichhwais, other than artistic appeal, is to narrate tales of Krishna to the illiterate.
The word Pichhwai stands for hanging at the back (Sanskrit word “Pichh” means back and “wais” means hanging). Pichhwai paintings are big sized paintings done on cotton cloth using natural colours and are hung behind the idol of Lord Shrinath Ji to depict his leelas.

Our firm features some of the best works of pichwai paintings sold in our online store.
